The Dessau-Törten Housing Estate was designed by Walter Gropius and built between 1926 and 1928 as a model for low-cost mass housing. The estate consists of 314 terraced houses constructed in three phases, using standardized building types and methods intended to rationalize construction. Since their completion, many of the houses have been altered by their residents through changes to façades, windows, entrances, extensions and other additions.
